OEM Notebook Printing — Manufacturing to Your Specification
An OEM notebook is manufactured to a specification you set rather than chosen from a catalogue. Your artwork, trim, page count, paper, binding and finishing are frozen into a signed reference sample, and that sample governs the first production run and every reorder after it. You own the design; we manufacture it in our own Shenzhen factory and quote each order against the spec sheet on file. See Imprenta Longyin for the broader notebook programme.

What Is OEM Notebook Printing?
It is notebook contract manufacturing to a buyer’s own specification. The buyer supplies the artwork and the specification set, and the manufacturer produces, inspects and packs to that set without adding branding of its own. This page covers the manufacturing side of that relationship: what you supply, how tooling is handled, and how a reorder is kept identical.
What Are the Three Levels of OEM Notebook Manufacturing?
Most orders fall into one of three levels, and naming the level at the start is what keeps a quotation accurate. In a print-only order the specification is already fixed by the buyer and we print to it. In a materials order we source to the buyer’s material list. In a structure order the board, binding and ruling are agreed on the sample before production.
| Level | What you provide | What we handle |
|---|---|---|
| Print-only OEM | Print-ready artwork, trim, page count | Printing, binding, finishing and inspection to your artwork |
| Materials OEM | Artwork plus a material and finishing list | Sourcing to your list and flagging choices that conflict at the sample stage |
| Structure OEM | Concept, page count and intended use | Board, binding and ruling agreed on the sample, then produced to it |
What Do You Need to Supply for an OEM Order?
A complete specification pack removes mid-production questions: print-ready artwork with bleed, the trim size, the page count, the material and finishing list, the quantity per version and the labelling requirement. Send the following:
- Print-ready artwork with bleed, and a dieline for any die-cut cover
- Trim size, page count and ruling style
- Paper and cover board, or the weight and finish you want
- Binding, plus foil, emboss, spot UV or die-cutting
- Quantity per version, market or distributor
- Carton labelling, and any barcode panel to keep clear
Reserve a light, uncoated area for barcodes. A dark or heavily coated panel does not scan reliably, and once the cover is laminated the area cannot easily be brought back.
How Are Artwork and Tooling Handled?
Artwork stays with your order file and is printed for your order only, and the dies made for foil, emboss or die-cutting are cut to your shape and archived for future runs. A die is made for one outline, so changing a logo size or a cover shape may mean remaking it. Confidentiality terms are agreed before files are released.
How Do You Keep a Reorder Identical to the First Run?
A reorder matches the first run when the specification is frozen and a signed reference sample is kept, because the variables that move between runs are the material batch and anything redrawn rather than reprinted. Three consequences follow. Materials are bought in a single batch per order wherever possible. Ruling is imposed to the finished trim, so the trim cannot shift between runs. Board is cut with the grain parallel to the spine, which is what stops a hardcover warping, and board from a different source changes the cover feel even at the same grammage.
Why Does an OEM Order Start With a Sample?
A sample is where the specification becomes physical: colour on the final paper, cover board stiffness, ruling position and binding behaviour are approved once and referenced afterwards. Sample making takes about 5-7 days after your files are confirmed, and the sample fee is refundable on bulk production orders of 1,000 pcs and above.
How Long Does OEM Notebook Production Take?
Production runs about 8-10 days for softcover notebooks and 10-15 days for hardcover notebooks, counted from the moment your files are confirmed. Air freight takes 5-7 days and suits launch dates, while sea freight takes about 1 month on common routes. Delivery can be split by market or distributor without adding production time, because the whole quantity prints in one pass.
What Should You Send for a Quote?
Send the artwork status, trim and page count, materials, binding and finishing, quantity per version, labelling, delivery stages and destination. A complete spec pack lets an OEM notebook manufacturer quote the specification as it will be printed rather than quote a range that changes later. Quotes are issued within 24 hours, and the wider format range is grouped in our notebook printing category.

Preguntas más frecuentes (FAQ)
Q: What is OEM notebook printing?
A: Notebook contract manufacturing to a specification the buyer sets. You supply the artwork, trim, materials, binding and finishing; we print, bind, inspect and pack to that specification without adding branding of our own.
Q: How does OEM differ from private label?
A: OEM describes who sets the specification, which is the buyer, and is the subject of this page. Private label describes whose brand appears on the finished notebook. Both are made to order, and a project is usually described by both at once.
Q: What do you need from us to start?
A: Print-ready artwork with bleed and any dieline, trim size, page count and ruling, paper and cover board, binding and finishing, quantity per version, labelling, delivery stages and destination. A complete pack keeps the quotation accurate.
Q: Who owns the artwork and the tooling?
A: Artwork stays with your order file and is printed for your order only. Foil, emboss and die-cut tooling is cut to your shape, used for your runs and archived. Confidentiality terms are agreed before files are released.
Q: Will a reorder match the first run?
A: Yes, when the specification is frozen and a signed reference sample is kept. Materials are bought in a single batch per order wherever possible, ruling is imposed to the finished trim, and board is cut with the grain parallel to the spine.
Q: How long does production and shipping take?
A: Production is about 8-10 days for softcover notebooks and 10-15 days for hardcover notebooks, counted from file confirmation, with samples in about 5-7 days. Air freight takes 5-7 days, sea freight about 1 month on common routes.
Q: What if there is a quality issue?
A: Quality is checked at every stage of production. If a quality issue is confirmed, we reprint free of charge or refund, and after-sales is covered.
